Remote Learning

To access work to be completed from home during a period of isolation, click on the relevant year group below:

Reception

Children of Key Workers and Vulnerable children

School will remain open during the period of lockdown announced January 4th, 2021 for the children of key workers and those classed as vulnerable. For these children, the school day will consist of the following:

7:30am - 8:45am - Breakfast Club

8:45am - 3:30pm - School Day

Parents who wish for their child/children to be enrolled in the above, should email support@hbsda.bham.sch.uk .

Remote Learning: Timetable

Teachers will provide a timetable to cover 10 days with a summary of each lesson that will take place. Links will be provided in this timetable to where parents and children can find the online teaching videos and resources for each lesson.

The following lessons will take place Monday to Thursday:

A whole-school assembly
A maths lesson
A writing lesson
A reading lesson
A phonics lesson (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2)
Storytime

The following lessons will take place each Friday:

A lesson for one of the foundation subjects (science, history, geography, Latin, PSHE or RE)

The following online sessions will be accessible to identified children:

Support/lessons for children with special educational needs
Support/lessons for children who speak English as a second language
Mentoring sessions

Each 10-day timetable will be emailed to parents before the end of a weekend. Pupils will be provided with a ‘remote learning pack’ which will consist of:

Exercise books
Pen/pencil
White board and white board pen
Relevant usernames and passwords to the programs that we subscribe to
Any additional, age-appropriate resources needed for Reception and Year

Remote learning packs will be made available for collection from the school office. Further details will be sent to parents via School Ping.

Please ensure you have installed School Ping on your mobile phone as this will be used as the primary means of communication during Lockdown.

Remote Learning: Contact with Teachers

During Lockdown, teachers will:

Have daily contact with pupils/parents via School Google Classroom between the hours of 9am and 3pm.
Daily whole-school online assembly with pupils from Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
A weekly phone call with parents.

Parents who require access to technology for remote (tablet and/or the internet) should contact school by either phone or email.

Remote Learning: Online Learning Platforms

The school subscribes to a number of online learning resources which can be accessed at home. It is essential that children and parents have access to the relevant login details during Lockdown. The login details will be sent home inside the ‘remote learning pack’.

Purple Mash (a variety of different subjects)

Google Classroom

Every child will be provided with a Google Classroom login. Activities will be posted to Google Classroom as well as daily live lessons. Once learning activities are uploaded by a teacher they can be completed by pupils from home. Teachers can then provide feedback directly to pupils.

We would like to inform parents/carers that Google classroom will show the names of the other children in your child’s class when they login.

Maths Whizz

Maths Whizz is an online maths tutor. It is adaptive and changes to reflect the knowledge and needs of each individual user. It guides pupils through an individualised learning journey that stimulates the behaviour of a human tutor.

Bug Club

Bug Club is a literacy program designed to support the effective and engaging teaching of reading for primary students in Reception to Year 6.

Bug Club readers include popular children's characters from titles such as Wallace and Gromit, Angelina Ballerina, Shaun the Sheep, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Casper to keep pupils engaged.

Digital books will be assigned to pupils by their teacher and feature automatically marked quizzes linked to comprehension skills which assess pupils’ understanding of the content.

Purple Mash

This is an online portal containing many activities for a full range of subjects. Each child has their own login and teachers can set tasks for the children. When children complete a task on Purple Mash they can submit it to their teacher who can comment on it.

BBC Bitesize– Explore our best videos, articles and quizzes for primary and secondary students and discover new Primary Catch-Up Lessons to get back on track. BBC Bitesize covers all subjects.

Topmarks– Topmarks has a range of educational resources, games and links to other websites covering all subjects.

Toy Theatre– Toy theatre is a collection of interactive educational games covering a range of subjects.

ICT Games– Educational maths and English games aimed at 5-8 year olds.

ICT in Schools: Learning at Home – ‘ICT in Schools’ based at The Word in South Shields have collated a range of activities and resources that you will find useful for home learning. Resources are easy to find as they are divided into age groups.

Phonics Play- Phonics Play is a website that offers interactive phonics games and downloadable resources across the 'Letters and Sounds' phases.

White Rose Maths - This is the scheme of work that we use when teaching maths. White Rose Maths have created a bank of resources for parents to use from home. These can be accessed for free.

Joe Wicks’ Workouts – Access a variety of different types of workouts to stay active on Joe Wicks’ Youtube site: The Body Coach TV.

Cosmic Kids Yoga – Cosmic Kids Yoga are interactive adventures which build strength, balance and confidence – and gets kids into yoga and mindfulness early! Each episode is its own story, so you can enjoy the Cosmic Kids series in any order.

Go Noodle for Families– A wide range of fun dances for children to learn and help them stay active.

National Geographic Kids – Discover cool fun facts about space, bugs, animals, dinosaurs, and so much more!

Horrible Histories – Horrible Histories is a hit CBBC show that explores the side of history that they don’t teach you about in school! From the Vicious Vikings and Awful Egyptians to the Slimy Stuarts and Terrible Tudors, Horrible Histories covers the funniest, yuckiest and most gruesome bits of history for kids.

SciShow Kids – SciShow Kids explores all those curious topics that make us ask “why?” Whether conducting experiments, researching new questions, or talking with experts, there’s always something new to discover with SciShow Kids, no matter what your age!

Hour of Code– Trying an Hour of Code is a simple and fun way to introduce students to computer science.
